0.The Green market: Workshop brief

Green market of Prishtina

The existing market along the street is demountable and lively but not desirable for the streetscape. Therefore the workshop can explore this in different scales, in street level and smaller scale/ market scale.  During the workshop precedents/market typologies can be analysed, to see how sustainable/green solutions have been deployed. The workshop can seek to provide a solution where the market can integrate with the historic fabric and streetscape, giving a contemporary identity to the place rather than just a chaotic and not designed feature.

The workshop can analyse how the market is a sort of parasite of the city and compare it to natural organisms (symbiotic) where both get benefit from each other. It can explore the different ways of benefits/interactions from the city-market-pedestrians to create a more sustainable streetscape system (and generate a loop of benefits within the different elements interacting).

The outcome of the workshop can integrate the design of a market structure that disassembles / folds/integrates with the city (built with reclaimed materials and that integrates landscaping and greenery like urban productive landscapes which are part of the market) So when the market is not in use, the streetscape is still attractive for the users and becomes a centre of attraction and meeting point.
